Support local initiatives working to reduce food waste, improve food access, and make better use of community resources. Organizations like the Connected Kitchen Project Foundation and Leftovers Foundation are helping build a more equitable and sustainable food system in Edmonton.
The Connected Kitchen Project Foundation
The Connected Kitchen Project Foundation works to transform underused commercial kitchens into shared community resources. By connecting available kitchen spaces with food security organizations, mutual aid groups, and local food businesses, the foundation helps address barriers to food preparation and distribution. Through partnerships, training, and coordinated operations, it strengthens Edmonton's local food system while supporting a circular food economy that keeps food and resources in use. Its work also includes community food programming and educational initiatives in partnership with NorQuest College.
The Leftovers Foundation works to reduce food waste and improve food access by rescuing surplus food and redirecting it to community organizations supporting people experiencing food insecurity. Through its Rescue Food program, volunteers collect edible food from local businesses and deliver it to service agencies that can put it to good use. By connecting food donors, volunteers, and community organizations, Leftovers helps keep good food out of landfills while strengthening local food access and reducing environmental impacts.
